I’m going to be doing something new next month, which is tabling at the New Jersey Association of School Librarians Fall Conference in Atlantic City, December 4-6. I will be setup, I believe in an Author’s Alley section of the show floor, where I hope I’m able to meet with all sorts of librarians and media specialists from across the State. I will have a self-published WHAT IS TITLE IX? ‘zine to give out. This short cartoon explainer is excerpted from the back-matter of The Fifth Quarter: Hard Court, and I hope will be of interest to all sorts of educators.
I am of course also hoping that having the opportunity to meet educators and librarians from across New Jersey will lead to some school Author Visits. I love speaking to middle-grade students about The Fifth Quarter and making comics, and have assembled an excellent presentation for that purpose. I call it “Cartooning Lessons, How Comics Work and What They Have Taught Me”, because it both lays out many of the fundamentals of making comics, but also goes into depth on some of the personal life-lessons I’ve drawn from continually observing and making art about the world around me. I have a school visit arranged for later this week and then a few in the Spring, but I would absolutely love to add more!
