The above four panels are a staple of my Cartooning Lessons school assembly presentations, as part of a segment where I talk about writing regularly about the things that happen in your life, no matter how mundane, as a path to new ideas and inspiration. What I don’t normally include are the four panels that come next:
The above postscript absolutely amuses me, but I feel like I could lose the 8-12 year olds with references to Bob Kane, Joe Chill and Batman’s comic-book origin. However, maybe it makes you chuckle.
Speaking of School Assemblies, I had a wonderful visit to J.W. Wakeman Elementary in Jersey City last week to kick off Read Across America.
March is a busy month, so I should have a bunch more author visit photos to share next update. To find out more about my assembly presentation and comics-making workshops, check out my Cartooning Lessons website. I’d love to talk about setting something up.
My other cartooning work continues apace, I am literally in the home stretch finishing my initial round of colors for my new middle-grade graphic novel, The Hidden Dominion of Geordie James. I’ve started including some imagery from this project in my author visits, and have been receiving some extremely encouraging feedback and response from the potential young readers who’ve seen it.
My plan over the coming months is to begin folding more material from this book into my presentation, adding new ways to talk about cartooning and different approaches to telling a story.
Finally, I’ve published a public post on my Patreon (nice alliteration) laying out my Monthly ‘Zine Club plans for March, April and May. Check it out to see a peek at what I’ve got in the works.
Thanks as always for reading along!
Mike
