Special Comics Workshop for Grown-Ups and Educators
An in-person opportunity for teachers and librarians through Project Write Now
I hope everybody is doing well this wet and soggy weekend. I just wanted to send out a short update calling particular attention to a special Cartooning Lessons workshop that I will be conducting this Thursday, September 28th at The Woman’s Club in Red Bank, New Jersey, from 7-8:30PM. This is presented in partnership with Project Write Now, a fantastic organization located in the Middletown area dedicated to transforming organizations and individuals and communities through writing.
If you are a teacher, school librarian, or older teen or grown-up interested in trying your hand at making comics, this is a fantastic opportunity to experience the workshops that I regularly present to tweens and younger teens.
In this class we will overcome our fear of putting pen to paper using a series of fun and engaging doodling activities. We will use our newfound confidence to design our own characters and tell simple two-panel and four-panels comics featuring them. We will learn the language of cartooning, and understand that the cartoonist’s job is to control the reader’s eye and the flow of information. And if we have time we will generate some hilarious found cartoons, and perhaps even try a “jam” comic or two.
If you’re an educator or a person who has followed this newsletter and been curious to know more about my workshops, this would be a fantastic opportunity to experience them first-hand. Register here.
If this sounds interesting to you, or like something you might want to participate in, but aren’t able to make it on this date, please let me know. I am thinking about scheduling another event like this sometime in the new year, depending on how well this one goes.
