HOT SPACE
The new issue of my FUN TIME ‘zine series will start shipping to Patreon supporters in May. This one features an entirely original 20-page cartoon essay about Queen’s commercially disappointing 1982 album, Hot Space, but is of course about much more than that.
A visit to St. Bartholomew School
I had a wonderful time up at the St. Bartholomew’s School in East Brunswick last week, talking to all of the K-8 students about making comics and The Fifth Quarter. I presented assemblies throughout the day, and then stayed late to conduct a cartooning workshop for the Girl Scout troop up there. Here are a few photos taken by the school photographer.
Thank-you to the school librarian, Carol Phillips, for organizing the author talk. If you would be interested in arranging an event for your school, more information on my Visiting Cartoonist assemblies can be found here.
Cartooning Workshops in Woodbridge
Also last week was the first of three “Cartooning Lessons” workshops presented at the Woodbridge Public Libraries. This first one was at the Fords Branch. Thankyou to agent extraordinaire, Janna Morishima for taking these pics and sending them to me.
These are free one-hour events, open to the public, intended for children aged 8-12, though I have always found a few years in either direction is usually not an issue. I walk participants through a presentation, explaining some of the nuts & bolts of making comics, and then I work with kids one-on-one to complete a set of cartooning exercises. It’s really a lot of fun.
I will be presenting this event again this Thursday 4/27 at 7PM at the Iselin Branch, and then once more next week, 5/4, at the Main Branch.
Thanks for reading and subscribing and staying in touch!
