I only know now how to ask teenagers how school’s going.
Summer Comics Writing for Educators Class
I am partnering with Project Write Now to present a four-week virtual class this Summer entitled “Comics Writing for Educators”. You can find more information and sign up to participate here.
This will be a virtual class beginning on Tuesday July 25th, 9:30-11:30AM, and then repeating weekly until August 15th. It is designed for educators looking to use comics and graphic novels in their classrooms, who are interested in gaining a better understanding of the form, and increasing their own comfort as cartoonists.
In each class I will share information about making, writing and reading cartoons and graphic novels, and then will present participants with opportunities to try their hands at making their own comic strips to tell their own stories.
I anticipate some nervousness from participants here, many people say they “can’t draw”, I think even more with adults than with kids, but I will teach you that making comics and drawing are not exactly the same thing. You will learn that cartooning is about conveying information clearly, and we will focus on using the language of comics to tell our stories clearly. I think it will be a lot of fun!
