I had a new cartoon published in The New York Times Sunday Arts & Leisure section this past weekend. It is always a thrill to step into my local convenience store on a Sunday morning to pick up “the paper” and turn to see my drawings featured pretty prominently in it.
I hope it’s also kinda cool for my daughter to see herself in print, and I think it is, but I also think she was equally (if not more) excited to see that my cartoon was published on the reverse side of a gigantic photo of Taylor Swift. She did ask, do I think “Taylor” read the cartoon? I think it’s possible!
Upcoming Summer Cartooning Workshops
Photos above from a recent cartooning workshop in Metuchen.
My focus this Summer is writing and drawing my next middle-grade graphic novel, The Hidden Dominion of Geordie James, but I am also getting out and about to present a few comics-making workshops for 8-12 year olds around the great Garden State. If you live in or near Hacketstown, Belvidere, Fairfield, Nutley, Brick or Middletown, check the calendar at your local public libraries, as I will be appearing at some point this Summer. For more information on my workshops and author talks, visit here.
If you missed picking up a copy of the New York Times this past weekend, but might be interested in owning a signed print copy of my Freaks and Geeks cartoon, consider becoming a $5 member of my Almost Monthly ‘Zine Club. I’ll be putting together a handsome edition of this cartoon and sending it out to all members towards the end of July. As you can see in the photo above, I self-publish all kinds of different comics and cartoon essays, each month is something completely different. It’s a really fun little side-project, and something I think is absolutely worth becoming a member of.
Thanks as always for reading along!
Mike
