This past February 1st was Hourly Comics Day, a holiday observed by online cartoonists, where you try to draw an autobiographical comic for every hour of the day that you are awake. This above strip was a cartoon I made ahead of time, and below is one of the pages I managed to draw on the day.
Getting through the whole day is tough, but even doing a chunk of hours is a fun creative exercise. A thing happens in a day, you think, hey maybe that could be my comic for the hour, you start to write it, and sometimes something funny or unexpected comes out. The drawing above of me fuming about my life’s career choices will be making me laugh for quite some time to come.
If you missed my Hourlies on the day but would be interested in reading them still, never fear, I am collecting them all up in a self-published ‘zine.

Read Across America Week
Read Across America week is coming up. If you are a librarian, PTA chair, media specialist or educator, and you think a funny and engaging assembly presentation about cartooning and graphic novels might be something your students would enjoy, please reach out. I still have some slots during early March available for visits, I would love to talk to you about setting something up. In addition to assemblies, I can also offer hands-on comics-making workshops that are a ton of fun.
Thanks for reading along!
Mike
Love it!
