Sports, Body, and Power at the Brooklyn Book Festival
I am going to be moderating a panel at the Brooklyn Book Festival next Sunday at 5PM in the Center for Brooklyn History. Here’s the description:
Sports, Body, and Power. There was a time when YA sports adventures were hampered by outdated gender norms and social expectations. Those days are gone, and Jonah Newman (Out Of Left Field), Molly Horton Booth (King Cheer), and Mad Rupert (Bunt!) are upping the game with their new graphic novels that celebrate the joys of baseball, softball, basketball, and cheerleading alongside the trials and tribulations of queer romance, financial aid, and body positivity.
I’m excited to be a part of this in the role of moderator, if you are going to be at the festival, please come on out!
First Author Visit of the 2024-2025 School Year
I was thrilled to visit the Elementary School in Randolph, NJ, to speak to the K-5 students about making comics and seeing the world as writers. They were an incredible group of kids, thank-you so much to the PTO for arranging it! I believe they had a carnival event the same day, which so early in the year, I think maybe some of those younger kids might start to think school is always just packed and filled with fun. I hope the rest of their school year can live up!
If you might be interested in scheduling a Visiting Cartoonist assembly or hands-on comics-making workshop for your school or library, please check out my website here for information on what I can offer.
Thanks as always for reading along!
Mike
